Mr. Foster () joined the law firm in 1976. He is licensed to practice in all North
Dakota State and Federal Courts and is certified to practice
in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Originally from Hillsboro, Oregon, Mr.
Foster graduated, cum laude, from the University of
Wisconsin in 1972, and in 1976 received his Juris Doctor
with Distinction with the award of Order of the Coif from
the University of North Dakota School of Law.
Honored in Harvard Law School’s “Best
Lawyers in America” since 1987, and in “Chambers USA Leading
Lawyers for Business” since 2003, Mr. Foster has shared his
knowledge of Banking and Debtor Creditor Law with the
students of the University of North Dakota School of Law by
acting as an Adjunct Professor since 1981, annually
conducting classes in “Debtor Creditor Law”, “Bankruptcy”,
“Commercial Paper” and Advanced Commercial Transactions
under the UCC”. He has authored accompanying textbooks for
all his courses, which are published by the University of
North Dakota Press. He has also conducted numerous seminars
for the State Bar Association of North Dakota, National
Business Institute, North Dakota Bankers Association,
American Institute of Banking, North Dakota School of
Banking, Independent Community Banks of North Dakota and
Lorman Business Institute.
Mr. Foster is also a former Assistant
States Attorney for Grand Forks County and is presently
Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of North
Dakota.
Mr. Foster is a member of the North
Dakota State Bar Association and the Grand Forks County Bar
Association. Mr. Foster currently serves as an Advisory
Director of the Community Bank of the Red River Valley. He
currently serves as Trustee of the North Dakota Museum of
Art, and has been a director of the Greater Grand Forks
Symphony Association, Chairman of the United Lutheran Church
Foundation.
